ABOUT US

Beyond Education is a Non-Profit Organisation committed to uplifting the oppressed and empowering the poor through self-sustainable projects.

The idea behind Beyond Education was born out of the obvious need in our local impoverished communities. In 2008 a group of like-minded businessmen came together with an idea to address this ever-growing need and, together began to partner with other people and organisations who also had a vision to see our community changed.

Beyond Education’s first partnership was with Zusakhe, a Non-Profit Organisation based in a Cape Town township called Du Noon. Zusakhe runs a crèche that supports 130 children, a team of home-base carers and an AIDS Support Group. Beyond Education initially helped to train the teachers by way of providing qualified teacher guidance, weekly English classes and a workable curriculum.

They then branched out in 2009, and began to supply food parcels to the home-based carers, gather donations to buy new uniforms and provide much needed medical supplies. It is here that they started the Recycle Swop Shop project that has been running successfully since May 2011, an idea greatly influenced by Marilyn van der Velden, who is the founder and runs Recycle Swop Shop Hermanus.

Beyond Education has also initiated various extra mural activities at an under-privileged school in the area, including Build a Bot (a Lego robotics program), Music in Me as well as various motivational and informative talks for school learners. The Build a Bot program also recently extended to provide a week long holiday workshop. This holiday program ran very successfully and it has shown us that it has huge potential to becoming one of the key programs within Beyond Education.

Venture 4th is an Entrepreneurial program aimed at 19-25 year olds who live in Cape Town and have an entrepreneurial spirit, or vision to create their own businesses. The program runs for 9 weeks and as well as hands-on coaching and mentoring by our team of experienced business people, we have also partnered with The Business Place to include a SETA approved Micro-MBA course.
